Milly-Molly-Mandy

The native bush on the Bealey Spur walk.
Dad, near Mt White - looking very Southern Man-ish.
Looking down the river from the railway bridge we walked over.

Has anyone read any of the Milly-Molly-Mandy books, by Joyce Lankester Brisley? I'm curious because I was basically brought up on them and for some peculiar reason, I've been thinking about them today. :) I loved all the little stories and the pictures. I used to copy the stories; eg the one where Milly-Molly-Mandy gets locked in her bedroom by mistake and she leaves a basket hanging out her window and her family leave little presents in it for her to pull up? That was a particularly fun idea!

Other books I got into when I was a little older (ie seven or eight) were Enid Blyton ones: the Famous Five series, the Secret Seven, Five Find-Outers and Dog... I was obsessed with Enid Blyton in the way I love Jane Austen now - something that is rather embarrassing to admit, when I flick through those books now... I don't think Enid Blyton was ever popular in the States, or at least not with my generation, because most Americans I talk to don't have a clue who she was. Not surprising I suppose, because she was very British!

I don't know those books. My second favorite book series is the Mandie series by Lois Gladys Leppard. My favorite is the fourth one(Mysterious Attic). If I had time, I'd read the new ones I got. I've read about 30 of them. And reread those with/to my sister a long while back. She loved them too. So, we got the rest of the series(10 more), which my sister read without me because I was busy. She didn't want to, but I told her it was okay & I'd read them eventually.

I got hooked on the Narnia series when I was quite young. My dad was talking to our old pastor in his office at the church. I was bored & so the pastor took one of the books in the series(I think the 1st one)off his shelf & gave it to me to read! Loved them ever since.

Beautiful photos!

And didn't you write in some post that you started a new blog to write about your mom? Did you edit that out? Do you still have that blog, because I was going to go to it when I had time. I can't remember the title...Another...something...which you named after a book you liked?

I've read one of the Mandie books! My brother gave it to me when I was about nine, but I can't really remember it.

Yes, I started another blog - it's on the links side of the webpage, called Another Grief Observed. I edited it out, yes - basically because I didn't want it to be very obvious that I have a new blog; I kind of want to be very honest in it and I don't want to offend any one I know quite well who may find out about this blog/or already be reading it. Yeah... so you're very welcome to read it but it may sound very bitter in parts! The idea is that I just want somewhere to expel all that bitterness, therefore it all comes out in a flood!
